3-ESO-MET:Theatre Project

3-ESO-MET students have been working these days with a global Theatre Project in three languages: Basque, Spanish and English.
In English, the final product was to create a hand programme, such as the ones you can watch in the following PPT.

But before,  they had to prepare the project:
1. They searched classical and modern theatres in the net: Delphi (Greece), Coloseum (Rome), Piccadilli and National Theatre (London),Winter Garden, Minskoff or Ambassador (New York), Teatro Arriaga (Bilbao) Liceu (Barcelona) Teatro español (Madrid)

2. They prepared a Biography. Most of them wrote a biography on film actors as they scarsely know theatre actors.

3. The third part of the project was to write the plot of the famous play. Not surprisingly, William Shakespeare's plays are their favourite.

4. Finally, they presented their products by means of ppts.

Here are some videos of some of their presentations:

The other 3º ESO Courses also took part in the project, as we can see in the following PPT.

Performance of Funny School Times - 2

Today the students of 1ºESO-1 taking part in our School Trilingual Project -Drama Workshop- have performed the musical Funny School Times -2
They have been working hard for four months to prepare the play. Furthermore, in the last weeks they have worked overtime to do their most on the stage.

Parents and friends have enjoyed not only the musical but also some  project presentations the students have shown during the play as part of it.

Finally, parents and  friends have posed to have a picture of the event together.

Congratulations!

Drama Workshop Performance.

As part of the Trilingualism Project, students of 1º ESO are producing their first play which will be presented on December 20th, only for families and friends. After a long term working in the  Drama Workshop they will say bye to 2012 by singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas" after the performance.
It will be the second language first experience on the stage for many of them. But they have been working hard; so, sure they will be rewarded with a big clap from the audience.

But what's the title of the play?

Funny School Times - 1
The  musical, which was created last year, has got new dialogues and sketches for a larger cast and crew.

Trilingualism Project: Drama Workshop

IES Julio Caro Baroja is a reference public high school always involved in new projects. Their last one is called: Trilingualism Project. To do so, an enthusiastic staff and team of teachers are working hard by  using experience, new methodologies and the new technologies. Besides the normal classes supported by Eskola 2.0 Project, all the languages of the project  -Spanish, Basque and English- respond to a special treatment to improve their learning. The English Department thought that Drama could be a good way of helping our students of 1º ESO to break some barriers that very often restrain students from speaking a second language.
In the following power point we show the way we work in the teaching periods. Most of the pictures were taken by the students during the Drama classes.

Thew following information was given as one of the lectures of the new school projects at Getxolinguae 12 Conference in May.

Drama Workshop students evaluate their experience.

The students of ESO 1 who have taken part in Drama Workshop give their opinions at the end of the school year.

Portfolio Presentations

At the end of the school year, our students of ESO-1 have prepared the project 'My Portfolio', in which they have shown what they have learnt since September.
They have written a document in Google docs and prepared a Power Point Presentation. Using the PPT, they have given an oral presentation about themselves.

The presentations have been really good. They have proved that they can talk about themselves and things in their normal lives quite fluently and they can also use the new technologies.

Betting our bottom euro on Drama Workshop & Trilingualism

Our Trilingualism Project is on. Sudents of Drama Workshop of 1º ESO have done it great. It's been a special school year for them in many aspects. As their 'drama anthem' says 'when learning is a pleasure, school, teachers and students are great'.  Shortly, a variety of videos will appear in our blog. To begin with, here is their presentation on their first day last September.

When a teacher lives up to his reputation

LUCAS

Lucas has been our English language assistant for a year.  Students have had full confidence in him since the very first day in class. Lucas is a nice easy-going  hard-working imaginative young man who always does the best of himself. Don’t ask him for anything; you can take for granted he’ll do it.

Students appreciate his power points, his youtube videos, his recordings of our Drama performances, the stories about his own young life, his smile and his sense of humour. His warm calm voice often helps  active and hyperactive students keep in calm when they become so excited at the end of the day.

What is he like?

Don’t look for descriptive words: watch him!

However, the end of the school year is coming and Lucas is leaving.  But don’t get in pain, because the students and the English Department will never forget such a good future colleague, such a good clever person, in the true sense of the word. And who knows? Maybe we’ll see him again at school… next year.

More on Reading Motivation

I  RECOMMEND
One of the aims of the Trilingualism Project together with another Project of the Center  is to promote reading among our students. To motivate and encourage them to read, the Basque, Spanish and English Departments have provided some panels so that they can stick their “book recommendations”. There, in special colourful paper they comment on their favourite books, make a short review of them and finally say why they recommend them.

At the same time the three departments have opened a competition in   1º ESO about bookmarks promoting reading.

And the winner who will see his original idea published and handed out to all the high school students next year is …
