Last Projects in COIN

In thses two pictures you can see our students in COIN this school year.

These last three months our students have been working on the project English Speaking Countries. They watched videos and learned about the culture and history of different countries, such as India, Canada, South Africa and Australia. Then, they worked in groups to create their beautiful presentations. They chose the country they wanted to work on and searched information about the geographical location, important cities, history, culture, religion, education, music, sports... They also created a history timeline using timetoast and finally, they planned a trip through the country, to present it, most of them used prezi. They gave oral presentations of their works, which you can see in the following links:

BAHAMAS                    NEW ZEALAND            AUSTRALIA

Our last topic was Food and most of our students prepared an extra project, at home, they cooked a dish that they like and took pictures. Then, they explained how they cooked the recipe to the rest of the students and some of them even brought their food to school and shared it with their partners. Delicious!!!!!

APPLE FLOWERS     CHOCOLATE CAKE     MEATLOAF

GRILLED MACARRONI           PIZZA AND BROWNIES

We hope you liked their projects!!!

THE FUN OF BEING A COIN STUDENT

As a COIN student of the year 2015-2016 I am proud to say that each one of us has done a great job up to now. We all enjoy what we do and that is what helps us put a lot of effort and love on it. We all started with doubts about how the subject was going to be, but I now may say that the results have been successful.
To get to know each other, we all prepared and gave a presentation about our holidays and after that, we all started working in groups. The projects for the first term were films as you may see in these presentations and pictures.

Aisha and Rafa talked about The Lord of the Rings.
Ignacio, Natalia and  me spoke about The Hunger Games trilogy.
Diego and Julio showed us a beautiful presentation about Avatar.

Here you have the  link to Naia and Borja's presentation:
The Perks of being a Wallflower

If you want to see what Jorge and Victor prepared, you can click on this other link:
Shrek

For the second term, we carried out projects about Risky Sports.
We wanted to use Glogster but we had no way of making it work unless we paid for it, so we ended up using linoit. To use this new tool, first we had to learn how it worked and then, we also needed to use lots of other apps to get a good result. It took us longer but it was worth it.

Heliskiing
Cliff Diving
Rafting
Skydiving
Snowboarding
Water skiing

Finally here are a few pictures of us with our posters

We have already started with our new projects about English Speaking Countries. When we finish, we'll write another post so that you all can see what they look like.

I truly hope you like this post
Elena :)

COIN bets on Projects with the New Technologies

Along the current year, COIN -1st  Bach has been working with projects on different topics.
They started presenting their favourite film and Film Review with drive documents and PPTs (Harry Potter, Ted, Pulp Fiction, Karate Kid, etc.).

During the next evaluation they were working on Risky Sports. As usual, they first seached on them in the net and prepared a script. On this ocassion they made a glogster as a support for their oral presentation. In teams of two people they presented Formula One, Climbing, Rafting, Surfing, etc. (see the Label COIN in this blog).

As usual,  the students evaluated the other students' presentations
Their third project was a totally speaking project on Urban Legends and Role-Playing.
Finally their last project was on English Speaking Countries
This has been the most complete in any sense. To do so, they have learnt how to use PREZI and Timetoast.

To have a look at them, click here,
and a Prezi containing all the Prezis they have created will appear.  Don't forget that to be able to watch it thoroughly, you have to press on the middle bottom arrows of the frame.

In teams of two people they presented  Formula One, Climbing, Hang-gliding, Horse riding, Surfing, Rafting, Parachuting, Motocross, etc. (To watch the glogsters clik on them, above this line)

COIN Batxilergoan

We worked hard in our COIN lessons during the second and third school terms en D model, 1.4, 1.5 and 2.4 batxilergoa.
We all learned how to make a poster on the internet; it's called glogster. We read articles, watched DVDs, listened to interviews... about risky sports and then we made the glogster about the sport we liked most.

Our most important project was on English Speaking Countries, India, New Zealand, UK, the USA, South Africa, Ireland, Canada and Australia. We searched and worked hard on the country we chose and made a document and a PPT which included lots of useful information and a history timeline; we ended the project planning a trip.
If you want to fall in love with Canada (I did) or know some more about UK, watch these beautiful presentations.

And our last project was a recipe. We watched Jamie Oliver cooking his fantastic recipes, learned that British food is not only Fish and Chips and dared to cook and bring the dishes to school.
Watch our students having a good time cooking

Tasty!
Delicious!
Yummy!

ENGLISH AND CULTURE IN BACHILLERATO

In Coin, this subject in which our students try to develop their oral skills, we do a lot of activities. In January, we had a wonderful time watching all the videos about extreme sports. So in order to complete the second term, the teachers have made the students work really hard. These two months, February and March have supposed a lot of research, discussions, agreements, imagination, creativity...

As our fourth project ,we have been trying to learn a little bit about different countries related to English language and Culture in the world. We want to use a CLIL approach in our lessons and we believe that if our students research and create their own materials, they learn more and feel more motivated.

Our students have created Presentations together with documents. They have worked in groups and have given presentations, which have been evaluated by their peers. Apart from the advantages of working in groups, they have also  improved their oral skills. Each group worked with a different country and while they were listening and watching the presentations, they also had to fill in worksheets with the information they were learning. We believe this is a great way for them to listen to their partners and learn from them.

One of the projects we would like to share with you is about New Zealand. Click here to see the document. The presentation is this one here.

EXTREME SPORTS

Not everything is travelling and visiting countries, friends and schools in Europe. In COIN, in Bachillerato, we also work a lot.

After learning a lot about Entertainment  and seeing the beautiful and interesting projects created by our students in COIN about films in the first term, we decided to work on a new and entertaining topic: SPORTS.

We watched DVDs, read articles, learnt a lot of vocabulary, talked about advantages and disadvantages of different types of sports and to finish up with the activity, the students created amazing glogsters about Risky Sports.

This is one of the glogsters.

Film Reviews in COIN

Our second Project this year was a film review. The students had to write a film review and then prepare a Power Point presentation with a link to the trailer. Here you have two beautiful presentations.

In the following link you can read one of the reviews  Taken

Some students even created a listening exercise  their peers had to do while watching  the trailer. Here is an example.
